The upper half of the face ages approximately one decade before the lower half. Therefore the upper half is typically operated on first.
The aging effects of the upper face present as an excessive upper eyelid skin hooding of the outer lid and “crows feet” around the outer eyes. The bushy brow also falls and fat pockets present as “bags” in the lower and upper eyelids giving an angry appearance.
A new approach has been developed by Dr. Romo to address surgical management of the aging upper face. This method establishes a sequence of surgical techniques that leads to a natural youthful and rejuvenated appearance without endangering the eyes and eyelid function.
The new procedure is based upon the recognition that as we age the tear glands produce less tears, causing increasing “dry eye syndrome” the longer we live. This condition is often worse in women than men, due to decreasing estrogen levels. Therefore the older we get, the more we need to close our eyes without restrictions. Hence, the worst thing to do is a procedure that cuts away eyelid skin as the primary goal.
Dr. Romo addresses this problem by first performing an Endoscopic Brow and Temporal Lift. This delicate procedure precisely elevates the bushy brow in a conservative manner through several small incisions in the scalp, no hair or skin is removed.
This approach naturally rejuvenates the upper eyes and brow without the need to remove nonreplaceable upper eyelid skin.
